Party like it’s 1999!
It’s been too long, friends.
Never fear, the silence was of the good variety. It was of the golden variety. I’ll admit that there were a few tricky moments shortly after my last post, but everything got sorted out very quickly afterwards.
There’s much to miss about home, especially the people closest to my heart, but let’s be honest here: I’m over the moon about being here right now. I’m having so busy having fun that I’m failing to write! That’s especially unfortunate considering my desire to document all this joy!
I don’t even remember when I fell in love with this writing thing, but I sure don’t want this love affair to stop! So let it be known, Internet, that I, Adrienne Hazel Bamboo Star vow to wrangle them words more than once a week lest my writing muscle atrophy like the others in my body. Amen.
Okay, so maybe I’m not supposed to end that kind of vow with “amen.” Look, I only recently fell in love with this writing thing. No one ever promised that I’d be good at it.
Unbelievably, the aforementioned muscle atrophy is possibly the least of my health and/or aesthetic worries right now. Some of the annoyances in competition to mar my blissed out Singaporean sojourn:
– My uneven and unwanted tan.
– My arch nemesis, sebum, that has taken over my face turning it into a permanently reflective surface and breeding ground massive zits.
– The many insects intent on feasting on my body leaving clusters of itchy and unsightly welts.
– The looming risk of dengue fever.
– Reoccuring lower back pain that is worrisome though not entirely reminiscent of my pre-departure hell that led me to the emergency room.
– Tropical weather and attendant sightings of lizards and giant roaches!
Thankfully, these little buggers all fail in their mission to sabotage my SE Asian jaunt.
Now for the good list:
– A delightful weekend taking in the sights, smells, tastes and sounds of the vibrant and beautiful Pulau Penang off Malaysia’s NW coast with Aussie Matt and fellow Canuck Lisa.
– Cheap and fun shopping.
– Cheap and fun eating. It is damn delicious too!
– Heaps of friends from around the world who warp my vocabulary. Note the use of “heaps.”
– Striking it big with a coveted ticket to the unbelievable Singapore National Day Parade. “It’s like the Olympic opening ceremonies with only one country participating!”
– My sexy new art deco-inspired mobile that allows me to SMS like there’s no tomorrow and talk and talk and talk to my sweetheart. Brain tumours be damned!
– Being first on the dance floor at a new club and tearing it up for hours despite the DJ’s stubborn spinning of horrible techno. Hence today’s title. Sorry, Mr. DJ, it’s 2005 and not 1999!
And so much more. I’m off to take my 2nd shower of the day as it is way past my bedtime and I’ve got to cram in some pre-lecture reading in the morning. Thanks to hard partying last night, I slept the morning away and have been unproductive ever since!
I won’t forget my vow. Coherent posts will follow. So much to share with you folks! Like my observations on the cleanliness of the club bathroom and the marked lack of people on drugs.

Feel the taste?! LMAO! Pale chicks on the beach and the monks in the cell phone shop are hilarious as well. Although, when did they build a replica of Notre Dame in S’poh? And then, there’s a replica of the Ile de la Cite too. Odd. OHHHH! I get it.
